When considering commercial drone video, the most important questions you can ask your drone pilot is: “Are you a licensed drone pilot?”
Straight from the FAA, “in order to fly your drone under the FAA’s Small UAS Rule (Part 107), you must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA. This certificate demonstrates that you understand the regulations, operating requirements, and procedures for safely flying drones.”
Not only will a licensed drone pilot be familiar with important FAA safety precautions, they will also know the restrictions and procedures required to legally pilot a drone in your area. Additionally, they’ll know how to obtain permission to fly a drone in different classes of airspace, which is a major consideration for commercial drone videos.
Always ask to see past drone video footage before you decide on your drone pilot! In addition to being a licensed drone pilot, they should be able to demonstrate their ability to capture professional-quality video.
